Biography

Marc Hemmerling (MSc in Computer Sciences) is a Member of the Management Board of the ABBL, the Luxembourg Bankers’ Association. The main domains covered by Marc Hemmerling are: Retail banking, Payments, Business Finance, FinTech, standards as well as innovation and new technologies. As such, Marc is, among others, secretary of a number of ABBL clusters, technical committees and working groups.

Marc also liaises with various national committees chaired by the Luxembourg Central Bank and the financial sector supervisor CSSF. He is a deputy member of the National Data Protection Agency – CNPD representing the financial sector. In addition, Marc is a Member of the Board of several ICT-related associations such as ICTluxembourg, EuroCloud Luxembourg and a Steering committee member of the Luxinnovation ICT Cluster.

At the European level, Marc is member of the Payment Systems Committee as well as member of the Business Finance Committee of the EBF (European Banking Federation). He was also involved in a number of European Commission expert groups and is currently Luxembourg’s representative in the European Multi-stakeholders Forum on e-invoicing and co-chairs the eifL – the Luxembourg Forum for electronic invoicing as a representative of the private sector.

Finally, Marc currently acts as Chairman of XBRL Europe as well as of XBRL Luxembourg.

Before joining the Luxembourg Bankers’ Association, Marc Hemmerling held the position of CIO at Cetrel (today part of SIX Group) – a Payment Service Provider mainly active in card payments services provider and acting as national clearing and settlement technical agent to the Luxembourg National Bank – which he set-up in 1986.

Marc Hemmerling started his career as civil servant in the Luxembourg Social Security IT centre as Head of IT systems and data centre operations.
